It's Roc City Boom against RGV Barracudas for league championship

FRUITLAND, Maryland -- Major Arena Soccer League 3 will crown a new champion Sunday when the Roc City Boom -- undefeated in 11 games this year -- take on the RGV Barracudas at 12 noon. The game will be broadcast live on the Delmarva Spots Network, and steamed by DSN as well.

Rochester survived a huge second half rally to defeaf the OKC Certified Lions, 8-7, in overtime, on Saturday. The Boom led 6-1 at the half, but OKC put on a determined effort over the final two quarters and scored six straight to take a 7-6 lead on a goal by Rafael Zalvidar with 10:54 to play in the fourth. Jameson Railey tied it a little over three minutes later, and neither team scored the rest of the way in regulation. OKC outshot the Boom, 34-29. 

A late penalty gave Rochester a power play in the extra session, and Rafa Godoi took advantage by scoring just nine seconds into OT, allowing the Boom to advance.  The OKC Certified Lions had advanced to the semis by virtue of their 11-6 win over Valhalla FC on Friday. while Roc City had a bye into the semifinals as the tournament's No. 1 seed. 

RGV won its second in as many days in a tight, tense, thrilling 5-4 win over Kalamazoo United, who as the No. 2 seed had a bye into the semifinals in the six-team playoff field.. After advancing Friday with a 10-7 win over the three-time defending league champions, Northern Virginia, the Barracudas hung on to beat the United, who had a first round bye.

John Ponce scored a shorthanded goal late in the second to give RGV a 3-1 lead at intermission, only to see Kalamazoo score two goals withing 58 seconds of each other in the early minutes of the third --  Charlie Saldivar and Kyle Vondenbenken found the mark -- to tie the game.

Ponce came back with his second with 5:40 to go in the fourth to break the tie, and the game- winner came from Marco Don Juan just 48 seconds after that one. Kalamazoo cut it to one again with just over three-minutes to play on a goal by Colin Howard, but did not ever get the equalizer. 

RGV held a big advantage in shots, 25-18, with goalkeeper Abelado Reyes credited with 11 saves to get the win.
