Philadelphia, NoVA to rematch in MASL 3 championship
For the second time in two seasons the Philadelphia Spartans will clash with NoVA FC in the Major Arena Soccer League 3 championship game. The top two teams from the regular season each earned their spot in the final with a playoff victory this weekend to set up the rematch.
Philadelphia Spartans 9, DMV Gunners 5
Jason Rocha scored a hat trick to lead the host Spartans (10-3-0) past DMV Gunners. Philadelphia led from start to finish, eliminating the first-year club from the playoffs. Jake Mulinge and Bryan Carabali each chipped in with a goal and assist for the victors.
Isiah Dorsey led the Gunners offense with a goal and assist. DMV (8-5-0) end their inaugural season after a third place finish in the standings.
NoVA FC 13, Fredericksburg Fire 8
The top seeded NoVA FC (11-2-0) booked their spot in the final with a strong showing in their semifinal victory over Fredericksburg. NoVA led 6-3 after one quarter and 9-5 at the halftime break before being challenged by the visitors. Back-to-back goals by RJ Fuentes followed by another from Sir John Perkins cut the deficit to 11-8, but the Fire would get no closer.
